As per a report sponsored by UK’s Department of Health and published by Public Health England, comprising of a prestigious group of highly qualified researchers, scientists and public health professionals, e-cigarettes are at least 95% safer than regular tobacco cigarettes. It has also been recognized as a potential alternative to quitting smoking.
The American Heart Association (AHA) also published a statement in 2014 suggesting that electronic cigarettes are less hazardous than tobacco cigarettes, and vaping can actually help smokers quit.
Unlike smoking, in vaping you usually don’t be inhaling burning tobacco smoke, you would be inhaling vapour or steam instead. It’s likely much safer, but beware you are still inhaling a lot of chemicals that are surely not very good for you.
Apart from the health aspect, vaping is better is other areas too. Vapour doesn’t smell bad like smoke or give you a bad breath, neither does it discolours your teeth. In fact, they usually smells good like candy or vanilla, depending on the e-liquid. Thus, with e-cigarettes, you don’t have to slip out of your office, living room or probably a gathering to smoke. The concentration is however not as high as in tobacco cigarettes but it does harm your body for sure. Data collected from numerous studies indicate that e-cigs are not at all harmless. Chemicals used in e-cigarettes can damage the lung tissues, thereby provoking inflammation. This can in turn reduce the ability of the lungs to keep the germs and other harmful substances out.
Whether vaping is safe or not, or if it is really an effective smoking cessation method or not, is a topic of ongoing debate. Also, the long term effects of vaping are yet to be encountered. But for now e-cigarettes can be called a winner in almost every aspect as they are relatively safer than smoking. Furthermore, it is a far better option for those regular smokers who wish to quit smoking and finding it difficult to do so.
